DUTIES:
The Center for Environmental Education is a non-residential environmental education program operated by P/NW BOCES which serves approximately 42,000 students in 36 school districts. During the school year this position provides instruction at the PNW BOCES nature center, local schools, other outreach sites, occasional after school and weekend programs and operates a summer nature center program. Individual is also responsible for preparation of facility and materials before and clean-up after all programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Individual should have a strong background in environmental science and ecology to teach programs such as:

  • ecosystem studies: pond ecology, forest ecology, marine ecosystems and tropical rainforest
  • sustainability programs: ecological footprint and sustainable food and energy systems
  • wildlife: wildlife CSI, Turtle, Frogs & Snakes, Birds of Prey and Owl pellets
  • team building programs: challenge course and orienteering
  • history programs: Native American, colonial living skills and cemetery
  • unique programs such as our monster storms and climate change program, the Earth Portable Classroom and our collaborative predator program with a local wolf center.

Must be able to perform some manual labor to fulfill site custodial duties. Must qualify through civil service.

 

CHARACTERISTICS DESIRED:
Flexible and adaptable, able to work independently. Must have a car to drive to schools (mileage reimbursed). Position includes housing. Must be available to provide weekend coverage on a rotating basis with other staff.

Reproduction Specialist Aide

DUTIES:
Provide assistance in meeting customer requests for P/NW BOCES’ Educational Printing Services.
- Will be asked to run digital copy machines and small finishing equipment.
- Will be asked to provide finishing handwork for certain materials such as hole punching, spiral binding, materials trimming, boxing of materials, labeling, preparing materials for mailing, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be reliable and possess a positive attitude, willingness to learn and accept direction, attention to detail and be customer focused at all times.
  • Previous experience with digital copy machines and small finishing equipment is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a customer service related field is preferred.
  • Must be willing and able to package boxes and lift cartons to a max of 50 pounds.

CHARACTERISTICS DESIRED:
Ability to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of BOCES. Schedule will be based on the workload and optimal work flow at the time (may vary from day to day or week to week). The ability to answer phones and record messages, as needed.

DUTIES:
Substitute teachers are needed to work on a per diem basis for the Career and Tech Center at PNW BOCES. Successful candidates will work in an exciting, collaborative, team based environment where they will follow developed lesson plans in various career and trade area programs. Some examples of substitute duties include: Maintaining a safe classroom environment, supervision of students in various classroom settings such as technical classrooms and computer labs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must has a desire to work with students in grades 10-12, and to assist them in achieving their goals in their chosen field of study. Must be organized, thoughtful, positive, and able to follow developed lesson plans. Good communication skills to deal effectively with students, staff, and administrators. Teacher or Teaching Assistant certification preferred, but not required. Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
