At Walkabout, students spend a month in the community making
a difference through a project that earns them social studies
and English credit. In the past, students have worked with
environmental organizations, social service groups and arts
organizations. Although oriented towards the experience of
service, the project serves as a warm-up for the more intensive
career internship. Many students begin the process of clarifying
their future direction during their service learning project.
Academics, although concentrated in two
10-week blocks within the classroom, occur throughout all
aspects of the program, including the Service Learning Project.
