Career Internships
The purpose of the 10-week career internship is twofold. One is for students to get a better idea about what they might want to pursue in the future, so that they don't spend four or more years floundering in college in search of a direction. The other is to make the invaluable contacts in the world of work that will put them several steps ahead of their peers. The career internship answers the questions students have about possible careers: "I wonder what it's like to be a lawyer?…I wonder what it's like to work in a recording studio?…I wonder what it's like to be a film-maker?…an archeologist?"

Career internships at Walkabout are more like a college internship than those normally offered to high school students, providing a focus for the future that adds meaning to their education.

Academics, although concentrated in two 10-week blocks within the classroom, occur throughout all aspects of the program, including the internship.
