A three-step approach is used for
school-to-work transition:
Phase I: Exploratory Rotation
Students rotate as a class through 4 vocational programs each lasting one quarter of the school year. This phase exposes students to a variety of career options. It also provides the career and technical education teachers with the opportunity to observe student performance in a variety of career areas, assess interests and abilities, and make recommendations for further career training. The programs in the rotation are:
Phase II: Full Year Classes
Students receive intensive skill development in one career and technical education program. Programs include:
Phase III: Community Placement
In this phase, students participate in supervised community work. Students work in the field four days of the week. One day a week, students remain at Tech where they review worksite attitudes and behaviors. Areas addressed include specific job skills, time management, appropriate work attire, personal hygiene, self-advocacy, problem solving and safety awareness. Work sites have included stores at the Jefferson Valley Mall and at the Triangle Shopping Center.
