Dear Colleagues: Welcome to the 2012-2013 Guide to Services of Putnam/Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES), our catalogue of the programs and services we provide to school districts, families and individuals. BOCES is a creation of our 18 component school districts designed to provide educational opportunities and supportive services that our individual component school districts are unable to provide as efficiently and economically on their own. BOCES helps your district grow through our partnerships with you. Students often come to us having difficulty seeing their way clear to independence, to a career, to a future as a successful adult. We welcome them with a message that is the essence of our mission: "You can get there from here." Over the years, our commitment to excellence and innovation in responding to the needs of our component school districts, the needs of other districts across New York State, and of thousands of adult students as well, has created an array of services that have been recognized repeatedly at the regional, state, and national level as the best that public education has to offer. In Special Education, we open new possibilities in movement and self-sufficiency for multiply disabled students; in behavior management and the creation of positive behavioral environments; and in Response to Intervention, wich integrates general education and special education intervention in order to turn failure into success at the earliest possible moment. Our Regional Alternative High School provides a path to success for students who might otherwise be unable to graduate from high schoool. Our Walkabout program helps disengaged students find confiidence and direction. Our Career and Technical Education Center offers a wide range of career and college training opportunities, including Career Academies, which integrate academics with technical training. We also help hundreds of adults who are changing careers, learning English, or pursuing a delayed high school education. Our Curriculum Center expands educators' horizons through its professional development programs, which are considered cutting-edge by educators throughout the state. We train thousands of teachers and administrators in the integraton of state standards, test administration, innovative curricula, mentorship, crisis management, data analysis and much more. Our innovative Center for Educational Leadership provides professional development, master’s, doctoral, and in-service programs for current and aspiring public school leaders in partnership with such prestigious institutions of higher learning as Teachers College, Cornell, Fordham, Bank Street, Pace, and Manhattanville. Our Regional Personnel Services provides, among other personnel resources, an on-line application service to over 300 districts. Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES works closely with all of its school districts to provide the best possible response to their needs. We are proud of the official recognition that our focus on excellence has received. We are even prouder of the appreciative feedback we have received from the students, teachers, administrators, and school districts we serve. Our commitment is to work together with you to insure that all students will "get there from here," on a journey that will lead them to a future of fulfillment and success. Sincerely, James T. Langlois, Ed.D.
