Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Training

PBIS Team Training: A research-validated approach to discipline, PBIS emphasizes school-wide systems of support that include proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors. A continuum of positive behavior support for all students within a school is implemented in areas including the classroom and non-classroom settings (such as hallways, restrooms).

This PBIS training is designed to support teams through the entire process of creating a school-wide behavioral program that will work for their individual schools. Teams are supported for up to three years. In years one and two, teams attend 5 training sessions together each year at Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES:

Level 1 focuses on creating a School-Wide Intervention Program. Topics include:

  • Overview of School-Wide Behavior Support/ Selecting Expectations

  • Transforming Expectations into Teachable Behavior

  • Active Supervision/ Teacher-Managed and Administrator-Managed Behavior Challenges

  • Developing an Acknowledgement System/ Responding to Challenging Behavior

  • Kick-Off Planning/ Getting Staff Buy-In

  • Active Supervision and Booster Activities

  • Defusing Anger and Aggression: Managing the Escalating Cycle

  • Targeted Interventions for At-Risk Students
