Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES is seeking a Special Education Supervisor to supervise programs for students with academic, social/emotional and/or communication needs in our Local School Building (LSB) programs. This itinerant position will provide leadership support for these 12:1:1 programs designed for students who require a small, structured setting but are able to participate in an integrated environment for selected activities.   • Principal of all classes at sites in component districts
  • Direct Supervisor responsible for hiring, support and evaluation of LSB staff including teachers, clinicians, teaching assistants and teacher aides
  • Point person for all referring districts of current and anticipated LSB students
  • Primary administrator responsible for reviewing and participating in the intake process for all LSB referrals of potential new students

  • Principal responsible for handling all disciplinary and emergency issues at each site as they arise

QUALIFICATIONS:

New York State administrative certification required (SAS, SDA, SBL, SDL) and a degree and Special Education or related field.
Extensive knowledge of Special Education laws and regulations; proven ability as a rigorous academic leader involving the common core standards and effective instructional practices for students with disabilities; innovative planner and an effective communicator who has developed positive relationships with colleagues, faculty, staff, students and parents; expertise in staff supervision and evaluation with knowledge of APPR processes is desired. Successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the Back on Track Program and assisting the classroom teacher in instruction and management of students. Must be able to conduct class instruction in the teacher's absence.

Must hold valid New York State certification.

DUTIES:
Substitute teachers are needed to work on a per diem basis for the Career and Tech Center at PNW BOCES. Successful candidates will work in an exciting, collaborative, team based environment where they will follow developed lesson plans in various career and trade area programs. Some examples of substitute duties include: Maintaining a safe classroom environment, supervision of students in various classroom settings such as technical classrooms and computer labs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must has a desire to work with students in grades 10-12, and to assist them in achieving their goals in their chosen field of study. Must be organized, thoughtful, positive, and able to follow developed lesson plans. Good communication skills to deal effectively with students, staff, and administrators. Teacher or Teaching Assistant certification preferred, but not required. Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
