This trip is open to students in grades, 5-9, teachers and their
parents. Students and teachers can signup as either individuals or
they can put a group together from their school. Students can be signed
up for the program directly by their parents, they do not have to
go through the school.
Participants do not have to be scuba certified.

The Classes:
The classes include: Introduction to Tropical Ecology, A Study of
the Mangroves and Seagrass Beds, Introduction to Coral Reef Ecology
and Fish ID. Participants will also be involved in a fish ID project
for the Reef Relief Foundation and a transect study in the seagrass
beds.
The Field Trips:
Field trips include: three boat trips to the coral reefs where participants
can either snorkel or scuba dive, a dive to an undersea hotel and
lab for the divers, a trip into the everglades and a swim with the
dolphins at a dolphin facility.
Dates:
We fly down the Thursday evening before Columbus Day weekend and return
the Tuesday after Columbus Day.
The Instructors:
The instructors will be marine biologists from NOAA, Marine Resources
Foundation, Amy Slates Diving Services, Westlake Middle School Science
Teacher, Steve Pesick, Program Coordinator, Dorna Schroeter and REEF.
Motel:
Sunset Cove Resort, centrally located on the bay side of Key Largo.
Cost:
Approximately $1,500 including room and board, all program components
and airfare.
