Intermediate CoreCurriculum Correlation and Alignment of the SCIENCE 21 Program
to the Intermediate Level In order to use this guide, you will need to have access to the NYSED publication, Intermediate Level Science Core Curriculum, 5-8. This publication can be downloaded as an Adobe Acrobat pdf. file from the New York State Education Department’s website at http://www.emsc.nysed.gov/ciai/mst/sci.html. Click on Resource Guide with Core Curriculum to download this document. This guide contains a one to one correlation to each of the standards, key ideas and major understandings referenced in the NYSED Standards Core Curriculum document. For each performance indicator and major understanding referenced, a mapping of the SCIENCE 21 curriculum has been done to indicate which grade level, unit and lesson has covered that particular performance indicator and major understanding. Grade level, unit and lesson have been coded. For example, G5U4Les3 would represent Grade 5, Unit 4, Lesson 3. Thus, this guide indicates where and when a specific core major understanding and performance indicator is taught in the SCIENCE 21 curriculum.
