WALKABOUT ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAM

Melissa Hardesty, Principal, 914-248-3612

Walkabout is a full-year public school program serving the needs of college bound juniors and seniors in the Westchester/Putnam region.  The goal of the program is to assist students to develop the confidence, skills, and clarity of future direction needed to be successful in college and life.  The program includes two 10-week sessions of Academic classes that prepare students with the skills they will need for college; a 9-week career internship to help add clarity to career goals and a sense of direction for the future; two 1-week backpacking experiences to develop self-confidence and a close sense of community in the group; a 4-week community service project to develop organization and planning skills, and to experience serving others; and intensive individualized college and career counseling.  There is no cost to parents for students to attend, and transportation to the program in Yorktown is provided.
