Welcome to our home page. We are located in the Tech Center at the Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES campus in Yorktown Heights, NY.
The Communications Academy was created in September 1995 and is a combination of three courses: Commercial Art, Television Production and Computer Graphics. The Communications Academy's goal is to develop more effective learners by providing relevant and meaningful information and activities in preparation for the world of work. We use an interdisciplinary model, utilizing the latest technology available, and integrating academics in all learning activities. We believe in a collaborative approach to both teaching and learning. Students enrolled in the Academy for 2 years, may be eligible to earn credits for Integrated English and Integrated Math. All three classes have been participating in group process activities including several ventures to the Challenge Course, which is similar to a Project Adventure experience.
Many students at the Communications Academy have taken advantage of the option of attending for four hours a day to receive one credit for English 12, one credit for Social Studies 12 (Economics and Participation in Government), 1/2 credit for Physical Education, and 3 1/2 credits in their Occupational Trade. These students may also attend a Health class if needed for graduation. All students in the 4-Hour program take a SUNY writing assessment test and may qualify to earn 3 college credits for Composition and Literature 101.
You can find out more about the 4-Hour Senior Option at What's New.
