Each year the Center for Environmental Education will bring in special
consultants from other parts of the country in order to provide programs
in schools.
Will be here the week of October 19-23 ot offer their unique educational experience to the schools in our area.
Talons! A Bird of Prey Experience brings the Raptors in the Sky, down to earth, resulting in an interactive, memorable and fun educational experience.
Talons! makes information real by giving students an up close and personal experience with our raptor ambassadors. Everyone will have a chance to witness our birds as they fly, so close that students will be able to feel the breeze from their wings. And some students will have the opportunity to hold a Raptor on the glove.
Talons! raptor ambassadors represent ecosystems from the Arctic Circle, to the Boreal Forest of Europe, to the South American Jungle, to our own back yards.
Your students will learn about who and why and where raptors live, and how they make a living as well as the difference between an owl , hawk and falcon pellet. They will come to understand the role that every predator and prey play in every ecosystem around the world. The information we present will be built on what students learn in their curriculum and ties into the state standards.
All information is grade level appropriate. We will work within the hands-on/off guidelines of all schools.
Program Fee: $650.00 for one program; $150.00 for each additional program on same day

The word predator can evoke feelings of fear and even disgust, but
who are the predators and what is their role? In this 90-minute program
taught by a P/NW BOCES Environmental Educator, students will learn
the answers to these questions and more as they examine why people
fear predators and why we should care about them. They will understand
what happens when predators are eliminated from their ecosystems and
what is being done to protect them. During the program, students will
come face to face with Atka, an Arctic wolf from the Wolf Conservation
Center located in South Salem, NY, as well as BOCES’s birds
of prey and snakes.
This assembly program is available as an in-school program and as
an evening program, either at your school or at a residential center.
Program Costs: $650 per program, $325 for each additional
program at the same school on the same day (this program qualifies
for state aid through the environmental COSER)
