YOUNG AUTHORS' CONFERENCE
Fred Ende and Cathy Greenwood, Co-Coordinators
The 2016 Young Authors Conference, “Writing: Possibilities and Potential,” is scheduled for March 14 at \ Westchester Community College in Valhalla.
Workshop registration for the 2017 Young Authors Conference is now open. Registered students and chaperones should browse the Young Authors Conference Brochure for workshop information and complete the registration form. Any students and chaperones who are not registered by February 17, 2017 will be assigned to workshops. Participating schools must provide the names of students and teachers as well as their email addresses. Participating districts will be required to return the Participant Information Form to Jennifer DelVecchio at email@example.com or by fax to 914.248.2390 by February 10, 2017.
The Young Authors Conference began over 25 years ago to publicly honor and encourage outstanding high school students who have demonstrated talent and interest in writing. The conference, held each March, provides highly stimulating opportunities for students to be active participants in writing workshops with professional writers, including novelists, poets, editors and journalists. Students gain an understanding of how writers write, and learn of the diverse careers open to writers.
In addition, a select group of the most talented young writers gather for the Young Authors Master Class: A Day of Writing and Editing, in early December to work with professional editors on specific manuscripts and to have their work published in the Young Authors Anthology.
The Young Authors Master Class: A Day of Writing and Editing and the Young Authors Anthology provide these serious high school writers with a unique professional experience that enables them to have a glimpse into the world of writing and publishing and, more importantly, to learn how to look at their own work through the lens of an editor or editing team. Each year, the current Young Authors Anthology is released at the Young Authors Conference and placed on the web soon after (stay tuned for the 2017 anthology soon after the conference)!
The Young Authors Conference and Young Authors Master Class: A Day of Writing and Editing are open to high school students in Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, and Dutchess Counties. Each high school may select two students for the Young Authors Master Class and at least fourteen students for the Young Authors Conference. Costs are BOCES aidable. Questions may be directed to Fred Ende, Assistant Director, Curriculum and Instructional Services.
